How to avoid hiring mistakes
If you have previously experienced the repercussions of a bad hire or are looking to avoid becoming a part of that above statistic yourself, there are several ways you can shield yourself from those far too common hiring mistakes.
Whether as a hiring manager you are under pressure to hire, you’re understaffed or itching to grow, the most critical thing to remember is QUALITY OVER QUANTITY. This age old saying applies here more than ever. Time and time again hiring managers rush to fill a gap and would rather a ‘bum on seat’, however fail to consider the downsides and learn all to hard when things start to go wrong.
Mistake#2: Vague Job Descriptions
Common hiring mistakes revolve around a candidate simply not being the right match, but sometimes that result directly stems from the job description you posted. When job descriptions are too indirect it can attract the wrong pool of candidates. In tern, end up wasting your time.
The solution? Set your expectations, taking time to scope out what the role’s responsibilities will entail. Be specific on certification requirements and coherently write this all out in an easy-to-understand manner.
